Mikael Persson Earns Season Best Result At GP of Sweden
Getting one step closer to the top, Miglio Yamaha Official Enduro 1 Team rider Mikael Persson wrapped up his home GP in impressive style. Placing seventh on day one the young Swede then secured a season best fifth place result on day two of a muddy GP of Sweden.
The GP of Sweden will go down as the third race of this year’s Enduro World Championship where riders were forced to battle their way through wet, muddy and extremely challenging track condition. Featuring three different special tests in technical terrain, and a total of three laps for each day, it proved to be one of the most difficult races in 2016.
Gradually finding his feet in the Enduro 1 class, 21-year-old Persson was able to challenge for the top five on both days in Sweden. Kicking off his home GP in fine style he posted times inside the top five in three out of nine tests on day one. Making a mistake in the very last motocross test he was forced to settle for seventh in Enduro 1 but nevertheless battled his way to the end of what all riders agreed was an incredibly difficult day.
Mikael was able to show more of the form that led him to the 2015 Enduro Youth World Championship title on day two in Sweden. Provisionally placed as high as fourth, he went on to finish the race in a strong fifth position.
With five out of eight rounds for the 2016 Enduro World Championship now completed, Persson currently sits ninth in the Enduro 1 championship standings.
The 2016 FIM Enduro World Championship will now move to Gordexola in Spain for round six of the series on July 2/3.
