The Pata Yamaha Official STK1000 Team is looking forward to returning to the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli this week as it gears up for an important home race for both team and title sponsor. The Italian-based outfit is aiming to build on the potential shown at the last round – where Niccolò Canepa secured the team’s first podium of 2016 – as the fifth stop for the FIM Superstock 1000 Cup visits the Riviera di Rimini. Lucas Mahias and Nicola Jr. Morrentino will fly the Pata Yamaha colours for the final 15-lap race before the long summer break, as Canepa’s services are employed by the WorldSBK team.

Initially chosen to represent Yamaha in its official STK1000 team at Donington Park, Mahias’ call-up was short-lived due to an ongoing injury. However, the Frenchman has since been seen in action in Portugal as part of the GMT94 Yamaha Official EWC Team, completing the 12 horas de Portimao with a stunning victory. The 27-year-old is looking forward to returning to the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship paddock and continuing to work with Yamaha on the YZF-R1M in front of the team’s home fans.

Morrentino is no stranger to the world championship, having raced for Yamaha in the European Superstock 600 class, including a victory at Monza in 2013. The young Italian also made a wildcard appearance at Imola earlier this season as part of the World Supersport class, while continuing his duties in the Campionato Italiano Velocità – CIV. The 22-year-old is excited by the opportunity to again represent Yamaha on the world stage, and in front of home support, as he gets his first taste of the YZF-R1M during the opening free practice session at 09:15 local time on Friday 17th June. Sandro Carusi and the Pata Yamaha Official STK1000 Team look forward to welcoming the young rider, already inside the Yamaha Family, to the world championship.

The Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli is a firm favourite across the championship with riders and supporters alike. The 16-corner layout incorporates ten right and six left-handers, knitted together by multiple high-speed straights, as the fast and flowing circuit weaves its way around 4,226m. Situated just over 2kms from the sea, and the resort of Misano Adriatico, the event’s location provides a holiday feel as the 60,000 capacity venue attracts an enthusiastic and loyal crowd ready for the closely-fought race scheduled for 14:20 on Sunday 19th June.
